Frequently Asked Questions
Before your first therapy session:
-
Great question! You don't have to figure this out before we start. In our first few sessions I will help you identify what approach, or combination of approaches, makes sense for what you're working through. This is also an ongoing conversation that we can adjust as we work together.
-
Traditional talk therapy focuses on discussing and processing your experiences verbally and through insight. EMDR and IFS go a step further — they're experiential, meaning we're not just talking about what happened and gathering insight, we're actively working with how it's still showing up for you now in your body.
-
Yes. Trauma-informed therapy isn't only for people who've experienced clear, overt trauma — it's a lens that recognizes how past experiences, even quieter or more covert ones, shape how we relate to ourselves and others. It works to create a space grounded in safety, choice, trust, and compassion. I wrote more about what this can look like here if you want to dig in further.

First, I’m sorry you’ve found therapy unhelpful in the past. This is unfortunately a common experience, and it doesn't mean therapy — or you — failed. Sometimes it just means the approach or the fit wasn't quite right. I'll ask what you tried before and what did or didn't feel helpful, so we're not repeating something that didn't work for you the first time.
-
Yes! I offer a free 15-minute consultation call so we can briefly connect, you can ask questions, and we can see if we're a good fit before booking a full session.
-
I'm so excited to meet you! You can reach out here to check my availability and book our first appointment together.
-
Yes! I offer limited in-person appointments in Downtown Brooklyn. My office is located at 26 Court Street and is accessible by many train and bus lines.
-
Yes! Research has shown that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person. Virtual even has some advantages, like limiting commute time and accessing therapy across the state of New York. It really comes down to personal preference — there's no right or wrong choice.
-
I have immediate openings and in some cases, can begin the same week or the following if you're ready. Reach out here to schedule a consultation call and see what I have available!
-
My individual session fee for a 55 minute session is $250, as I'm an out-of-network provider. Many of my clients use their insurance to cover most of their session fees through reimbursement — I provide a monthly superbill you can send to your insurance for that. I'm happy to walk you through the process, or you can check here. It's easier than it seems!
-
I'm an out-of-network provider, meaning I don't bill insurance directly. If you'd like to use insurance, you'd need out-of-network benefits as part of your plan. I'm happy to help you figure out if your plan covers sessions with me, or you can check here.
-
I do! I have limited spots on a sliding scale from $165–$250. Reach out to check availability. If you're unsure whether you need a sliding scale, Alexis J. Cunningfolk created the Green Bottle Method to help you figure that out, which you can read about here. I will never ask you to prove need and if I can't accommodate you or my scale is still out of reach, check out my resources page.
-
I accept credit, debit, HSA, and FSA cards, via a secure online platform. A valid card must be saved on file before your first session, and it will be charged automatically at the end of the day after each session.
During the therapy process:
-
Sessions typically run 50–55 minutes on a weekly basis. I recommend weekly sessions in the beginning to build consistency and rapport, then we adjust the cadence based on what makes sense for your goals.
-
I understand things come up, even for me! I'll always do my best to reschedule when I can. I ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel. If there's a no-show or a cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice, the full session fee applies.
-
This is a really common experience, so you're not alone! I'll help guide you in the first few sessions and throughout treatment to narrow in on what you'd like to focus on. Therapy with me isn't fixed — I check in regularly to make sure we're focusing on what matters to you.
-
This really depends on your goals and what we're working on together — some people come for a specific issue and wrap up in a matter of months, others prefer ongoing, longer-term support. We'll check in regularly so this never feels open-ended or unclear.
-
That's completely normal, and you're never expected to share more than you're ready for. We move at your pace — part of my approach is making sure you feel safe and in control of what we process and when. When using modalities like EMDR and IFS, you often don’t need to verbally recount the details of traumatic experiences (unless you want to). Instead, these approaches can help you access, process, and release trauma in a deeper way without having to revisit every detail.
-
I combine methods based on what you need. There's no one-size-fits-all approach to healing and reaching your goals, so what we use might shift depending on what we're working through in a given season of our time together.
